Walt’s Tractor History2022-09-01T08:50:05-05:00

Walt's Tractor vintage photoWalt’s Tractor has been a huge part of the four state area for 50 years this year, and has depended on the Big Nickel publication to communicate with their customers thru most of those years.

In 1967, Walter Kassner started Walt’s Tractor Salvage, 2 miles West of Fairview, MO on HH Hwy and the business remained there for 47 years. Walt’s started selling the revolutionary air cooled German, Deutz tractors in 1967, and then later added the used parts in to help save their customers time and money on tractor repairs. Now 50 years later they are still keeping those original customer’s tractors going, even though they may have passed through 2 or 3 generations hands by now. Walt’s son Wally grew up in the business and started showing his mechanical talents early on and has been “turning wrenches” and selling tractors & equipment ever since. Due in part, to his early mechanical start in the business, Wally has had the opportunity to travel all over North America and even Germany and Romania with wrenches in hand, to work on the air cooled Deutz models.

The four state area and beyond also got to know and enjoy Wally and his Deutz pulling tractors for many years,as they were always putting on a smoke show and demonstrating the powers of the Deutz tractor in the ag motorsports world.

In July of 2011, the current location east of Neosho on 86 Hwy was opened, featuring LS Tractors, Bushwhacker rotary cutters, hay equipment & zero turn lawn mowers. At this time equipment sales were located at 86 Hwy and the workshop and used parts remained at the original location west of Fairview.

It didn’t take long to see that the original shop location was being outgrown. So in May of 2014 the original location was closed. The name was also officially changed to Walt’s Tractor LLC., and all parts, sales and service were again brought together at the current location on 86 Hwy .

The latest addition to Walt’s Tractor was in 2016, when Billy Steenblock, formerly of TriState Hydraulics in Bentonville, AR, joined the team at Walt’s Tractor to offer the same affordable and reliable hydraulic services he had to the Walt’s customers for years as a outside hydraulic repair specialist, now on site at Walt’s Tractor.

While many things have changed thru the years, Wally still enjoys maintaining the brand his father started selling and believed in 50 years ago. Wally has now added many additional lines to the Walt’s Tractor line up, and takes pride in servicing what they sell and then some!!
